Textile education in Turkey began with İzmir Textile Vocational School, the kernel of current Textile Engineering Department, at early 1960s by the support of German Federal Republic technical education aiding project.
In 1969 the Vocational School was reorganized to be İzmir Architecture and Engineering Academy and in 1971 became a part of Ege University. In 1978, it was accepted as a Textile Faculty. In 1982 the Turkish University system was reorganized and beginning from that date, the department is named to be Ege University, Department of Textile Engineering.
The Department of Textile Engineering today has 9 Professors, 6 Associate Professors, 7 Assistant Professors, 1 Instructor, 11 Research Assistants and 5 Engineers. The department has advanced laboratories with state-of-the-art machines and equipments.
